Sarah Shuttleworth
Sarah Shuttleworth is a 23-year-old Red River Metis woman, born and raised in Dauphin, Manitoba. She graduated from the University of Manitoba in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and has recently been accepted into the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba.
Sarah first became active in her community at a very young age through cultural dancing and volunteerism. She began Metis-style jigging at the age of four and was also a member of the Zirka Ukrainian Dance Ensemble for 11 years. At the young age of 12, Sarah became a recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for her work on volunteerism in the community and was also awarded the Manitoba School Board Association Student Citizenship Award. At the age of 13, Sarah became the instructor for the Dauphin Friendship Centre’s Square Dance Group for children between the ages of 4 and 12.
At the age of 16, Sarah started dancing with the world-renowned dance group, the Asham Stompers. She was the 2018 Women’s World Jigging Champion, as well as a member of the 2019 World Aboriginal Square Dance Competition Champions. Over the years, Sarah has shared her love for dance and her culture in surrounding communities by presenting at several schools on the Metis culture and Metis-style jigging. At the age of 17, Sarah led a workshop for Mountain View School Division staff during an Indigenous Professional Development Day, where she presented on the history of Metis people and the evolution of Metis-style square dancing and jigging.
Sarah is hard of hearing but has never let her disability hold her back from achieving her goals. She has worked as a mentor in numerous schools with other students with disabilities, and in 2018, Sarah was a panel participant for the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities’ Indigenous Perspectives on Disability Panel. .
Victoria Gwendoline
Victoria Gwendoline is a Métis singer-songwriter and actress. She has been writing her own songs ever since she could remember.
Victoria has two albums out of all original music and is currently rolling out her third. She writes all of her own original music and has much more to share. She recently starred as a leading role "Harley" in the new Crave original show "Don't Even", and also recently appeared as a lead in two comedy movies "Vandits" and "Lucky Strikes". Victoria is an artist in all her ways, and plans to continue to write and record more music to share from her heart to yours.
Jenny Foidart
Jenny Foidart (she/they) is Red River Métis from Treaty One with Ukrainian, Icelandic, and Scottish ancestry. Born, raised, and currently living in Winnipeg, Jenny is a student, mother, singer, artist and activist.
Contessa Lestrange
Contessa Lestrange is a Winnipeg drag performer of white settler and Métis descent. She is the founder of Drag in the Peg, a podcast series exploring the lives of local drag performers. Contessa is a proud daughter of the House of Elegance, a citizen of the Two-Spirit Michif Local, and a member of the all-Indigenous drag troupe the Bannock Babes.
Jason Lepine and Ben Page
Jason Lepine is a Métis fiddle champion and recording artist born and raised in Portage La Prairie who now lives in Winnipeg.
